Elaquent

I found out about Elaquent by surfing around on Soundcloud and Band Camp. This producer from Ottawa, Ontario makes soulful, electronic, smooth, night-cruising beats for days. I encourage you to give his music a try if you're down with beatstrumentals like I am.

You can now find him amongst a solid roster of beat producers on the Huh What & Where ("HW&H") Recordings.

Looking for a chance to see this dude live.

Check some of his tracks below.

You can find more of his tunes here:

Oh the first track that got me hooked was "Teddy Bear." Smooth - I love that bassline!

Flying Lotus Documentary - "Fly First"

A new short documentary on Flying Lotus just dropped. Pretty cool, laid back guy and a decent documentary. I wish they would have featured more of what he actually does to create his Ableton sets and talk about his creative process. The flick focussed a bit too much on smoking bud and making funny faces for fan pics. I was hoping for more music and beat making philosophical goodness. I give it solid "aiiight!"

9TH WONDER INTERVIEW: The Art of Sampling

9th Wonder speaks on how he blew up in the game and the art of sampling. This is an old interview but its still relevant.

At one point of the interview he challenges people that doubt the art of sampling and producing hip-hop to take the "Today" by Tom Scott and recreate "Reminisce Over You" by Pete Rock and CL Smooth.

Here's "Today" by Tom Scott

I'm starting a collection of Maschine tutorials

So, as I mentioned in my previous post, I'm going to start making beats again. Well, I never truly started - I just got a taste of it really.

One of my favourite things to do is scour YouTube for tutorials and tips from other Maschine and amateur beat producers. There's some really good ones out there and I am going to start posting the ones that I find useful.

Hit me up if you find any great Maschine or beat production videos in your journey.

Peace!

New Beat - Soul Departure

I just started experimenting with making my on beats in 2011.

I had to tear the setup down in the summer of 2011 after a few months of learning the basics on how to use Reason and Machine. I just unpacked and setup all of my gear in the new crib. Finally, after 9 months, it's time to get back into it.

I'm new and rusty at the same time, so I'm looking for some constructive advice on how to get better. Holla!

More beats are coming. Thanks for listening.

I just stumbled on this video. I wish I was playing on an MPC at 10 years old. I hope she keeps this up.
